MEC Coal
- MEC in partnership with the Government of Ras Al Khaimah have established MEC Coal to develop one of the largest green field coal mines in Asia, located in East Kalimantan Province of Indonesia

- Thermal coal resources of 2 billion metric tonnes (MT), with upward potential of additional 2 billion MT within East Kutai regency of East Kalimantan province
- Current reserve of approx 1 billion MT each is hosted within two adjoining coal blocks, having development the potential to produce 17 million metric tonnes
per annum (MTPA) each during the first phase of the production plan
Construction has already begun to open up the initial mine following the completion of the following projects.
Achievements
- Exploration license for the 5,000 hectares of land acquired
- Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and bankable feasibility study completed
- Environmental study completed
- Land acquisition completed
The coal reserve
- Vast resources of thermal coal with low sulphur and low ash content
- Open pit with single seam operation of 33 meters deep (mean thickness)
- Overall strip ratio of ~1.3 in both blocks
- 90% of seams cored have recoveries exceeding 95%
